Today was a full day of Alyson’s last day of inpatient rehab and another 1/2 day of
caregiver training. We are out of here at noon tomorrow! 🥳🎉 Jerry & JoJo made it home
safely and will start moving some furniture around tomorrow to prepare the office to
become Alyson's bedroom.
In her morning PT she walked 153 feet with the walker. She had to take 4 breaks
because her BP drops in the morning. Mental note: make Vandy appointments no earlier
than 11am. In the afternoon PT session, she wrapped it up by walking 160 feet with the
walker without stopping (see pic). Prior to that also practiced walking up and down 4
steps (see pic) for the 3rd time. She practiced purposely getting out of the wheelchair
onto the floor and I learned how to get her back into the wheelchair. In OT she practiced
transferring from her wheelchair to an airplane wheelchair and then into the seat. Very
happy she practiced that because she learned the airplane wheelchair is very narrow
and feels different to get into since there are no arms.
We learned more about her Asia score that measures movement and feeling. The
assessment Alyson had when she arrived 4 weeks ago had a score of D at her C6, which
is where her break was. Yesterday she tested a D at her C7 so she is gaining more
movement and strength.
D=Incomplete: Motor function is preserved below the neurologic level, and most key muscles
below the neurologic level have a muscle grade that is greater than or equal to 3,
Her physical therapist just keeps saying it's a matter of time. We just need to wait for the
nerves to heal and talk to the muscles which need strengthened.
Our last Chicago dinner was Portillo’s - Chop Salad, cheese fries, and chocolate cake
shake. Thanks for joining us Mary & Jennifer!
Thank you for all the continued love, support and prayers near and far!
