Right now I’m sitting in the kitchen area of Vandy’s rehab area while Alyson is in 2 hours

of OT/PT. A guy is using the harness and a walker to walk up and down the hall. I can’t

help but think, “Why not Alyson? Why has she not been able to do this here??” She went

from walking 160 steps with just a walker on her last day at Shirley Ryan on 11/18/21 to

not walking at PT because they’ve focused more on strength. She walked a bit at home,

but then injured her right ankle earlier this month, we think from a fall at home. She had

an X-ray last Friday which showed nothing is broken, but then had it injured again that

evening. Now she has to go to an Orthopedic for it. Until she gets an all clear on the

ankle and her right heel wound completely heals (expected to take another 2 weeks) I

feel like she just continues to go backwards in her progress. Hopefully Alyson feels

differently.

On a more positive note, I’m assuming the strengthening will be beneficial when she is

ready, and her wheelchair is supposed to ship Friday. Yay! I loath this loaner!! She met

with her physiatrist last Friday who also seemed a little surprised that Alyson was not

walking in therapy so hopefully she now has more input at OT/PT once we get her all

healed!

Please pray for healing, strength, and wisdom of what to do next.

UPDATE FROM ALYSON: She feels that she is improving everyday, and says the reason

she hasn't walked at PT is because they expect her to do that at home since she doesn't

need a harness... which is delayed due to ankle injury. Her orthopedic appointment is

next Wednesday. At that time she will find out what restrictions she has on her ankle. I

can't help but think there is a MRI in her near future. Apparently I just need more

patience and to see the small gains. :-\
